Looking for a fast-paced thriller...
New Haven detective William Shute is having a bad day, one which begins in divorce court, then goes downhill from there. Investigating the death of a well-to-do man in one of the city’s sleazier no-tell motels, Shute discovers that not only was the victim a bigwig for the ultra conservative religious group, the Sons of God (60,000 members of which are about to descend upon New Haven for a pray-in at the Yale Bowl) . . . but he wasn’t a victim after all. Shute, however, can convince no one that the prostitute wanted for the killing, was in fact only protecting herself. And when other members of the Sons Of God meet similar bloody ends, it becomes a race against the clock to find the girl. Shute wants to save her . . . everyone else wants to put her away. Exploring the worlds of religious hypocrisy, internet prostitution, and made-for-order porn, while dreaming he just had the guts to strap back on his old Fender Tele to play some rock n’ roll, Shute discovers secrets about himself and the city that he never wanted or needed to know. But once those doors are open, there’s no turning back . . . I just received my copy - it looks really good.... more later, after I finish it!

I just finished it - it was great! Living in the old Big 8/new Big 12 sports scene - I believe that I know who Crawford is! If anything, you made him out to be nicer than the original (at least towards his family)! I thought that what is really disgusting about the real person is that he didn't acknowledge his grandson until AFTER the kid's dad died of cancer. Of course, he was okay to be his number one athlete, but not good enough to be with his daughter. Nice family values! Yet another "compassionate conservative" -ha! Are there any other books of yours about this same character - Shute?

Thanks for the kind words... No, to answer your question, NINTH is the only Shute book. Though if you like my politics, you'd probably love my first book, THE SECOND GREATEST STORY EVER TOLD. It definitely takes the conservatives by the horns... It's out of print, but you can usually find a used copy at half.com. I just ordered it - (and I also ordered Balls and Good Neighbors...) Thanks for the autograph on the dvd. I haven't been able to watch much of it, though--but I will be able to watch it on Tuesday night. I did skip around and "Black dogs can't jump" just cracked me up!

More Shute
I recently ordered Ninth Square from Amazon and finished it over the weekend. I enjoyed the book a lot. Great pacing and suspense making for a very fun read. I know from the earlier posts that there are no other Shute novels, but I was wondering if you had future plans to write any new books with this character? I for one, would certainly love to read more.

A new Shute novel...well, I did finish a first draft of one...but then tossed it. One day it might end up on my site as SNOW BLIND did. (Did you ever read that. It's free online at my site here: http://gormanbechard.com/snow/ I wasn't completely happy with the new Shute book...and then YOU ARE ALONE came along... Not enough time in the day. But thank you for the kind words about the book!
