I only discovered the movie this past week on cable. First, let me thank you for thekissmovie.com. I am sorry that the 'powers that be' destroyed your vision. But it was most kind of you to share the photographs and music through the website.
Second, a question about casting. You have said that Eliza was your choice and Billy and Francoise were not. Was Terence Stamp your decision? And who would you have liked in the miscast roles?
Can't wait to see You Are Alone.
Again, thanks for sharing the music.
GormanBechard- 04-09-2005
Wow...haven't thought about this in a while...
But, to answer your question...
Okay...yes, Eliza was perfect.
As for the role of Cara (played by Francoise), perfect casting to me would have been Maggie Gyllenhaal. Second choice: Heather Graham. Or, believe it or not, Winona Ryder.
In the Zane role...I don't know...anyone else...who might play a young Terence Stamp...???
As for Terence...wouldn't change a thing.

Thanks for answer all the questions here, Mr. Bechard.
I wouldn't like Heather Graham for the role of Cara, but I actually see Wynona Ryder there... And who I really love to watch in that role would be Julie Delpy, I think she would make a perfect Cara... I agree you, Terence and Eliza are perfect in the movie! And for Billy Zane's role... I think anybody could do it much better than him
I bought the movie some time ago and I liked it. My boyfriend and I talked about the movie once finished and both of us agreed that without the book part and without Billy Zane, the movie could be beautiful (oh! and without the last scene in the beach)
Would we have a chance of reading the original script without the cuts or the changes made by the producer?
And also, have you think about working again with Eliza Dushku in your next movies?
GormanBechard- 06-19-2005
Unfortunately, I have no rights to anything on the film, so I can't show anyone the original script. And yes, I would certainly work with Eliza again.
Julie Delpy, by the way, if a great choice!
And yes, if you cut Zane completely, and the backstory on the book...in my cut they barely existed, it would be a better film.
And the music...the music that's there now sucks!
But that's old news.

Hi
I stumbled across your film this evening on cable. I like the story but I could definately tell there was something missing. I wish I could have seen the previous edition. I am a fan of Eric Bachman and Crooked Fingers.
I was wondering if you know the artist and name of the song played during the credits.
Much thanks
Michele
GormanBechard- 10-13-2005
Sorry Michelle, I don't know the names of any of the songs in the film, or any of the artists.

Its ok thanks for the quick reply though.

I just finished watching The Kiss. I decided to watch it because of Eliza. The story had so much potential; however, was so lifeless.
I also found it odd that all these great actors were cast and yet the lead actress was SOOO awful. I had a hard time looking at her. I knew something was up so I went to IMDB and sure enough… she was the producer’s wife. This woman should never be cast again, in my opinion. She was just dreadful! And Billy's outfit in the art gallery -- no words can describe.....
Then, I read how the entire movie was rewritten and that you had commented about it on your site. Hence, I just had to check that out…
I offer my deepest regrets to you that your vision was ripped apart in such away.
I’m so glad I took the time to visit your site. I may not have watched something of yours again based on The Kiss. Now that I know it wasn’t the movie you created. They almost should remove your name as director and insert the person who reedited it.
Now I must thank you for introducing me to Crooked Fingers. I had never heard them before. I also watched the preview of YOU ARE ALONE and it looks amazing. When is it to be released?
Do you think you will ever redo The Kiss?
One last thing -- you said you love music have you ever heard of Vas? They have an amazing sound.
GormanBechard- 10-16-2005
Thanks for the kind words...I look back on the Kiss as a learning experience. I learned how a producer should never act, and I learned a lot about the process. I also met a number of great people.
As for re-doing the Kiss...no. I would never go near it again. Once was enough.
You Are Alone is still doing its film fest thing...then we will begin the search for a distributor. If you want to be kept updated...join the You Are Alone email list.
Glad you like Crooked Fingers. By all means, see them live! You never know what to expect, and it's a different show every time.
I have not heard of Vas, but thanks for the suggestion. Always looking for new sounds...

Mr. Bechard,
I saw the film on cable this afternoon and really did like it. I would love to have seen your original version and I can only imagine how frusrtating the result must be for you.
I have looked and found very little information about Francoise Surel. Other than being the producers wife could you share a bit of insight about her?
GormanBechard- 10-19-2005
Honestly, there's very little to say. Her IMDB credits say it all.
chad11950- 10-21-2005
That's what made me curious, she has almost no credits. I guess if your hubby is the producer you get to be a star, lol. Reminds me of Sophia Copola in Godfather 3.
What is your opinion of her performance? Was she dificult to direct?
GormanBechard- 10-21-2005
Her performance is hard to watch, especially in the version that was released....it seems as if the re-edit highlighted all of her weaknesses as an actress.
As for being difficult to direct, her acting coach as well as her husband, who were both on set all the time, were the real problems.

Hi!!
I don't know if you are interested about it, but The Kiss is being aired now on Spanish TV, in a cinema payperview channel. I couldn't see it already, I'll have to wait until the next time it is aired, but I think the spanish voices are ok, I heard them in the trailer. :D
